To push current topics and to attain new knowledge FleetBoard participates in academic research projects:

Researchprojekt SETPOS (Secure European Truck Park Operational Services)

FleetBoard is participating at a EU-sponsored research project regarding safeguarding and pre-booking of parking spaces for trucks, e.g. via Telematics systems. Other partners in the project called "Secure European Truck Park Operational Services" are ADAC, Asfinag, Autostrade, Tank & Rast, Veda, Teleroute and various others. Research project Nestor II

From 2003 until 2005 FleetBoard participated in a research project called Nestor II which dealt with the reduction of CO2 for road traffic. The project was an EU-project which was organized under the sponsorship of the German TÜV (technical inspection agency) Rheinland. About 19.000 data records of FleetBoard customers were evaluated within this study and it was proven that with the use of telematics systems a reduction of CO2-emissions can be achieved. It was also testified that telematics systems amortize in about 1-1,5 years.

Research project SmartInfo

FleetBoard supports the project SmartInfo - Supply and Marketing of Traffic Information which is promoted by the fundamental research fund of the University of St. Gallen, CH and is part of the projects advisory board. The advisory board unites academics of different disciplines and companies from various businesses and supports the members of the Kühne-Institute of Logisitcs in regards of contents as well as methods in regular meetings as well as bilateral cooperation. The phenomenon "The Profit of traffic information for the road transport of goods" is researched constitutively on the perspectives information bearing, coordination and production of information. The goal is to explain the so far limited utilisation and the poor offer to identify profit potentials and benefiting product attributes, to differ groups of users and derive premises for a successful marketing of traffic information.


The LOGISTIK-V’INFO project illustrates the extent to which rectification of transports in terms of scheduling, spatial planning and preventative driver assistance can exploit areas of potential improvement for traffic and the environment, and demonstrates the benefits generated for fleet operators and shipping agents by reduced transportation costs and a higher degree of reliability.

Provision of dynamic traffic information is robustly adapted for road haulage purposes and implemented for such services as the RUHRPILOT Traffic Information Centre. Load curves are taken into account in trip planning, enabling areas with heavy traffic to be consistently avoided. Current traffic information is also used to inform trip management, meaning delays can be identified so that logistics managers are able to react in the optimum manner.

Driver assistance recognises current or expected traffic situations (such as traffic light changes or reactions on the part of vehicles ahead), allowing the driver to adapt the route to prevailing conditions in the most energy efficient way.
